Sitting in a garage with a layer of dust didn’t stop me from noticing this all time classic. Wow! Talk about style. Whoever designed this car really knew what they were doing. Sleek lines, lots of chrome and details to die for.

The owner came out and told me it had a 427 engine. He stressed the point a number of times. I guess it was some big deal. I didn’t care. I was totally mesmerized by its sheer good looks. He started the engine and the air filled with a cloud of smoke; it smelled like the 70s. It was loud. I was tempted to ask for a ride, but didn’t want to give the wrong impression.

“Seven miles to the gallon and well worth it,” the owner said. He told me he loved taking it out. He was always approached by all kinds of interested people. “One time,” he said “a little old lady came up and told me she lost her virginity in one of these cars.” We both laughed. Pretty funny. He also told me to come back when he had it waxed and polished.

As I left, he pulled the cover off of one of two cars he had sitting in the driveway. It was a Porshe. “It’s a ’78,” he said. I wasn’t impressed. “What’s under the other one?” I inquired. He told me it was another Porshe, “a ’96.” I looked over at them and then back at the ‘Vette. They were nice, but the StingRay was way cooler.

I stopped in my tracks when I saw this moto parked along Grand Avenue. It was so new and fresh. Looked like it just rolled out of the show room. This isn’t a car, but it sure is a ride.

Cutlass

I always wondered what the word “cutlass” meant. It fell so easily off of my tongue and epitomized the notion of 70s hot rods. I googled it and found out it’s some sort of sword. Figures. The names of cars are often macho.

This orange screamer caught my eye in Fairfield, CA. I was up there for the day and noticed it (how could I not,) sitting there gleaming in the sun.

Need I say more?

1970 Chevelle

Up in Montclair Village on a foggy morning, I saw this classic and immediately had to get a shot. While snapping my photo, I heard a voice behind me say, “that’ll be a dollar.” I turned to see a 17 year-old kid approaching me. “Is this your car?” I asked. He said ”yes.” That was weird. I was expecting some old dude. He went on to tell me he paid $12,000 for the car (who knew it cost that much?) He also let me know that his job at a local deli paid for all of the expenses on the car. And, there were a lot. Eight miles to the gallon on this bad boy. At least the parts are cheap.

I didn’t hang around to hear the engine roar, but I did ask if it was loud. The answer was, “hell yeah!”
